This month’ show features a remarkable lineup of international performers and we would love to see you. We have a feeling it is going to be really special!
So, the details…
the brownbread mixtape #16 is on Wed, Jan 26th at 8.30pm, upstairs in the Stag’s Head. the theme for this month is “begin again”
resident MC Kalle Ryan will be in place again to host proceedings and rattle off comedic bon mots. resident sound man Enda Roche will also be in the corner co-hosting and ringing in the decibels.
the following stellar acts will be performing>
Lindsey was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, and was raised by musicians in a home full of songs. She wandered off a while to study music in Texas, then to New York to study poetry in graduate school. After several years of crafting mostly poems, she’s found her way to back to her beloved home-state, where she is completing her second studio album with producer Randolph Lewis. With David Kim (of Mike Strauss, Benji Hughes) on drums, and Dustin Hofsess (Greenlight) on upright bass, her new collection should wrap this early spring. the brownbread mixtape is ecstatic to bring this incredible singer and songwriter to Dublin for the first time. Imagine Emmylou Harris crossed with your favourite poet. Get ready for greatness.
“…Coming off as a more grounded Fiona Apple, or a southern-born Kate Bush at times…mid-tempo, acoustic and piano-driven affairs…this gorgeous voice and measured elocution drive this collection of love songs and laments….” – Tim Davis, Creative Loafing Charlotte
Andy is a gifted guitarist and songwriter with a voice that belies his years. At times bluesy and gritty, at other times raw and emotive, but always powerful. Andy has performed previously with The Lonely Schizophrenic, but tonight we get to hear his solo take on the world. the brownbread mixtape is delighted to welcome Andy to the stage. Musical magic.
Colm is quite simply one of our great Irish writers and he is one of our very favourite performers. He claims that his best ever gig was at the brownbread mixtape back in March of last year. He performed a new poem on the night that he had written specifically for the show called “Ireland is…” which was ridiculously good. Since then he has recorded it and released it on iTunes as part of The Unruly Trinity collaborative project with Simon Quigley and Mark Cullen. Colm has been short-listed for the Sunday Tribune’s Hennessy X.O Literary Awards on three separate occasions (possibly even four). As well as being the current All Ireland Poetry Slam champion, he also finds the time every month to run the magical and hugely popular Nighthawks gig at the Cobalt Café with Stephen Kennedy (which is deadly). He also appears regularly as a reviewer on Arena arts show on RTE Radio 1. Suffice it to say, Colm is the real deal and the brownbread mixtape is certain you’ll be learning his poems for the Leaving Cert if there is any justice.
Dylan has been acting for many years on everything from small stages set up in churches in the countryside of Ireland, to the big screen in Bulgarian cinemas. However in the last two years he has started to reckon himself a poet and a writer also.‘I’ll write a play about Dublin’ he said to himself and “Reaching Richie’s Freedom” was the result. A play centred around the legendary Richie Havens performance of “Freedom” at Woodstock. Dylan is also working on a feature film and just finishing his first novel and is proud to be classed now as a writer as well as an actor. the brownbread mixtape is delighted to finally present a theatrical piece at the show. “Freedom, freedom, freedom…”
