the brownbread mixtape is on Wed, June 29th at 8.30pm, upstairs in the Stag’s Head. the theme for this month is “DRINKING” [Facebook event page here]
It’s our second birthday! So come along and join us for a celebratory drink! We plan on having a film crew in to document the evening, so anyone on a witness protection programme may want to reconsider coming along. The rest of you are very welcome though!
resident MC and drinker Kalle Ryan will be in place again to host proceedings and wave his applause sign. resident sound man and fellow drinker Enda Roche will also be in the corner co-hosting and raising the decibels.
The following outstanding performers will be on the lineup:
Marc O’Reilly |
Marc O’Reilly’s roots may lie in Waterford and France, but his sound rests somewhere between the American-influenced folk blues of Peter Green and contemporaries such as Ray LaMontagne and Gomez. Following stints in different alt/rock bands, Marc began to make his mark in 2010 as a solo performer, playing at last summer’s Electric Picnic festival and supporting fellow Irish songwriters including David Kitt. Marc’s musical journey has seen him play across different continents following gigs in the US and Australia, but he is back based in Ireland for the release of his debut album “My Friend Marx” and the brownbread mixtape is delighted to welcome him to the stage.
“. . . a remarkable debut” – Hot Press
The Guilty Folk |
The Guilty Folk are Aidan Comerford and Sarah Williams, two people who get sexually-excited by the sound of applause. In reciprocation they will try to make you laugh and sing-a-long with their big fat songs about sex and love. If you’re extra-lucky, you may even get to hear them with Neil “Lovechild” Dexter on double bass. Like most acts these days, their happiness is directly proportional to the amount of people who click “like” on their Facebook page on any given day. the brownbread mixtape is only delerious with excitement to welcome them back and feels like a proud parent in their life story but we will leave them to tell that tale on the night. Oh the intrigue.
Abby Oliveira |
Abby is a writer and performer. She has co-written 2 performance poetry shows with the Poetry Chicks. She was a finalist in the All Ireland and Glastonbury poetry slams (2009/10), as well as a finalist in the BBC Radio4 Poetry Slam (2009). Her poems have been published in various magazines, books and journals, she was a compere of the Poetry and Words venue at Glastonbury 2010, and has appeared at Electric Picnic, The Flat Lake Festival, Waterford Writer’s Weekend, The Forge at Gort festival, Out to Lunch festival and countless others. She also has extensive experience as a creative writing facilitator and has worked with children and adults of all ages in community and other capacities. She also happens to be one of the very best poets currently performing in Ireland and the brownbread mixtape is honoured, giddy and thrilled to welcome her to the stage.
Brian Conaghan |
Brian was co-founder of successful Glasgow Theatre Company, Vanishing Point, and has had his plays performed throughout the UK. In 2006 Brian completed a Master of Letters in Creative Writing from the University of Glasgow where he managed to stumble through the last of his three novels, The Boy Who Made it Rain, which he will read from tonight. As well as reading from his recently published novel, Brian will read a couple of his pitch perfect poems. Brian Conaghan is a talented bastard and we love talented bastards at the brownbread mixtape.
Our very own hilarious sketch troupe will perform brand new skits and sketches on the theme of the night. The Brownbread Players for this month’s show are Sean McDonagh, Gus McDonagh, Eva Bartley and Kalle Ryan (with guest appearances by other McDonaghs).
