Three Men Talking - Colm, Kalle, Stephen - (c) Jessica Ryan - www.comfyphotography.com

“Three of Ireland’s leading performance poets – Colm Keegan, Kalle Ryan and Stephen James Smith – take the audience on a cathartic, emotional journey into the heart of who they are. Digging into subjects that men may not traditionally explore like love, relationships, loss, family and self doubt, they explore what it really means to be a man.

Three Men Talking has had hugely successful sold out runs at ABSOLUT Fringe 2011, the Turnaround Rep Season in Project Arts Centre 2012, as well as the 2012 Kinsale Arts Festival. The show has been nominated for the ‘Bewleys Cafe Theatre Little Gem’ award in 2011 and is currently in development to be made into a feature film.

Colm, Kalle and Stephen James are all award winning writers and slam-poetry champions in their own right, having performed at several prestigious literary festivals & venues across Ireland and around the world. This is their first play.”

What a huge honour. In today’s Irish Times, the brownbread mixtape has been named in an inspiring list of creative people here in Ireland. Every single person or group on the list pushes things forward artistically and creatively in this country, so we are truly proud to be named among them. We believe strongly in the power of live performance and art to unite and inspire. All of these people are heroes. Support them all and there is no doubt this country will continue to grow in the right direction. Respect to one and all.

the brownbread mixtape Irish performance poetry audio showcase – Commissioned by Penduline Press, USA

penduline logo

We are delighted and honoured to let you know about a special audio broadcast on performance poetry in Ireland that we recently put together for a special Irish issue of Penduline Press, a literary journal based in Portland, Oregon, USA. Our inimitable host Kalle Ryan was commissioned by guest editor Dave Lordan, to put together an audio selection of the most interesting and engaging contemporary performance poets in Ireland and the end result, an hour long broadcast, can be found at the soundcloud link below. There are, of course, many other brilliant performance poets across this country, but we simply didnt have space or existing audio recordings to include them all in this showcase.

We are very proud of it and immensely honoured to have had so many gifted poets grace our stage over the last few years.  We hope that you take a moment to listen to the broadcast and that you enjoy it. Please feel free to share it with any poetry and spoken word fans you may know. We also encourage you to read the entire current issue of Penduline which features a wide selection of great contemporary Irish writing. Enjoy!

[ … ] Kalle probably has the closest to an overview of performance poetry in Ireland and he was the obvious choice to make a showcase selection for Penduline.” – Dave Lordan, Guest Editor, Penduline

The Brownbread Mixtape is on the (Dublin Literary Attractions) map!

We are literally and literarily on the map! Our sincere thanks to Failte Ireland for including the brownbread mixtape in their recent publication “City of Words: Dublin’s Literary Attractions”, released to coincide with Dublin’s current status as UNESCO City of Literature.

We’re truly honoured, humbled and delighted to have been included in such lofty company in this publication, sitting alongside such legendary Irish places like The Abbey Theatre and the Chester Beatty Library.

Not only is this super cool, but it is already reaping hearty rewards. At our most recent show we had an attendee from Canada who had gone to the tourist office and asked for a recommendation. Upon describing her interests as literary, intellectual and humorous, the friendly folks at the tourist office pointed her to our show. She later said to us that it was one of the highlights of her trip to Ireland! YEAH! Doing our bit for the country, one fun night at a time.

Alternative EURO 2012 anthem – “MY BLOOD IS BOILING FOR IRELAND”

The fantastic EURO 2012 football tournament kicks off today. Show your support for the Boys in Green and make “My Blood is Boiling for Ireland” your unofficial anthem for the tournament. Our campaign to popularise the song in time for the tournament began on Arena on RTE Radio 1 last month.  So, it would be fantastic if each of you could now post it to your Facebook wall, tweet it to your followers, stick it on your Google+ page or pass it on to influential, popular blogs and websites. We really want everyone to shout and roar this alternative anthem during the tournament. Help us out. All it takes is one simple click. COME ON IRELAND!
