MUSIC:

The Radioactive Grandma

The Radioactive Grandma are an original alternative 3-piece acoustic driven band from Cavan, Ireland. Comprising of Johno Leader (acoustic guitar), Peter donohue (electric guitar) and Ben McCarthy (cajon) They combine energetic alternate rock with a melodic and harmonic indie pop style sound.

Crossing a 90’s brit pop sound with guitar driven new wave, the band bring a fresh and exciting alternative to the tired and exhausted Indie that seems to dominating our airwaves at the moment.” – Music Review Unsigned

Ana Gog

A tight-knit group with a fluid playing style, Ana Gog have grown together through formative school and college years and emerge as one of Ireland’s most unique bands. Led by multi-instrumentalist and main songwriter Michael Gallen, their distinctive sound is one forged over countless performances together where eclectic influences have been distilled into a captivating whole.

Combining nuanced songwriting with ornate instrumentation, Ana Gog create evocative and melodic music built upon a complex palate of sounds. Delicate grace notes elicited from piano keys are contrasted with the surge and bark of robust rhythmic arrangements – dynamics that turn each of their songs into mini epics.

Make no mistake – this is timeless, potent music, and debut album Making Trails a bold statement by a group of musicians who are here for the long run.

Ana Gog’s music is wistful, folk-inspired and yet dramatic and powerful at the same time…a compelling combination.” – Lisa Hughes, State.ie

Princeton University Tigressions

The Princeton University Tigressions was founded in 1981 by a group of undergraduate women eager to add a bold, new sound to Princeton’s rich – but largely all-male – a cappella tradition. (Women had only been on campus since 1969.) Over the years, the group established a reputation for great music, originality, style, and fun. The Tigressions arrange most of their own music, which includes Broadway show tunes, pop, folk, jazz, and even a few original songs.

In addition to making regular recordings, the group tours extensively in North America, Central America and Europe. The Tigressions have performed for audiences of all sizes, from intimate dinner parties to audiences of thousands. Whether entertaining alumni or school groups, serenading dignitaries, singing the National Anthem for sports events, or harmonizing under Princeton’s gothic arches, Tigressions love to sing.

The Tigressions have most recently toured in Atlanta, and are proud to announce the release of their latest album, Until the Morning Light, which showcases their unique brand of bold, contemporary, all-female a cappella.

Biggles Flys Again

Biggles Flys Again deal in wistful lo fi pop music. Started by Dubliner Conor Deasy as a four track bedroom recording project, it has grown to include 4 live members. Releases to date include two ep’s, a cassette album, and songs on compilation albums from Series Two Records (Nebraska), Lost Sound Tapes (Seattle), and Popical Island (Dublin). Since 2010 Conor has toured solo in the UK, France, Germany, and Sweden. In 2011 he toured in the US, across 10 states, playing in bars, basements, parks and warehouses. He is currently working on a debut album which is due out in early 2013.

STAND UP COMEDY:

Jarlath Regan

Jarlath Regan is a 31 year old Irish comedian, jack of all trades and decent fella.  Raised on the windswept plains of the Curragh of Kildare he dreamed of being a professional basketball player but shelved the ambition due to combination of injuries and on the early on-set of “cop on”.  The NBA’s loss has been stand-up comedy’s gain. During a period as an advertising account executive he became disillusioned and decided to try his hand at comedy. After winning a place in the final of the BBC and Channel 4 new comedy awards he began gigging around Ireland in small bars, pubs, community halls and hay barns. After a while he was asked to support people like Ardal O’Hanlon and David O’Doherty. Not emotionally but by doing a short set before they went on stage.

Then through a stroke of good fortune he was asked to appear along side an all-star cast of Irish comedians at the inaugural Montreal Just For Laughs Irish Comedy Gala. A television producer saw the gala and six months later the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland decided to fund a television documentary about his journey to the Edinburgh festival with his first solo show. “Nobody Knows Jarlath Regan” (TV3) was a three part series which saw Jarlath interview some of his comedy heroes and apply their advice to his daily experience of the Fringe.  The live show received a series of positive reviews in the Edinburgh media. In 2008 he returned with an entirely new show about being punched in the face and in so doing furthered his collection of milky way stars.

In the past few years he has appeared on Ireland’s version of Mock The Week – The Panel. He recently completed his second illustrated book of his twisted greeting card collection which was published by Transworld Ireland for Random House in April 2011.  The first book, “How To Break Bad News” became an instand best-seller and something of a cult classic. In January 2009 he made a little bit of history by becoming the first comedian to record a live album in Dublin’s Comedy Cellar – the venue that gave birth to Dara O’Brian, Tommy Tiernan and Dylan Moran. Now it’s time for some more over the top media quotes.

“an unstoppable, relentless, never ending flow of fantastic tales and over the top mind blowing observations making the audience laugh so much that trying to stop was as impossible as dealing with the hiccups” ***** DB MAGAZINE (Australia)

“the sort of comic you want to take home to meet your mum…an unshakeable ability to turn an ordinary anecdote into a winning story…a perfect teatime show” –
Chortle

SKETCH COMEDY:

The Brownbread Players

One of the most enjoyable parts of the monthly brownbread mixtape show are the original sketches written and performed by our very own Brownbread Players sketch troupe. The troupe is made up of professional actors Gus McDonagh, Niall McDonagh, Eva Bartley and Sean McDonagh, as well as our own chancer Kalle Ryan . All of the sketches are performed in the style of a live radio comedy show (akin to the classic Goon Show), complete with bloopers, giggles and audience interaction.
