The Brownbread Mixtape Won Electric Picnic!

A stunning weekend at Electric Picnic, filled with an ocean of pure emotion, crescendo’d on Sunday for us with one of our greatest ever shows. Kalle and Enda kicked off proceedings with a rowdy, ramshackle rendition of “Put ’em under pressure” which saw the packed Word tent belting out a rousing chorus of “Olé, Olé, Olé, Olé…”. The show then quickly kicked off with a  stunning set ofheartfelt poetry by Erin Fornoff, who wowed the crowd with her moving and masterful poems. The roars and howls of appreciation echoed long after each piece.

Up next was our excellent resident sketch troupe “The Brownbread Players” who tackled the topic of Irish music festivals by reenacting Amanda Brunker’s painful festival performance verbatim, along with the actual YouTube comments directed at her. They also performed their classic selection of fake radio ads and closed out their set with the now legendary Werner Herzog sketch.

The Brownbread Players were in truly rare form and the crowd audibly sighed when the sketches drew to a close. The show then moved into yet another gear as Pearse McGloughlin took to the stage and delighted the now-heaving tent with his lyrical, melodic compositions. Clear highlights being the entire room singing “For the birds, the birds, the birds…” and closing out his set with a stunning rendition of “Ag Ól Ag Ól Ag An Garbhóg” with Enda Reilly and Fia Rua. You could have heard a pin drop as the room was held captivated from start to finish.

And in closing, the entire room stood to attention as the alternative Irish national anthem, “My Blood is Boiling for Ireland”, was chanted with gusto till the sides of the tent shook. A stunning close to a truly spectacular weekend.

It was great to see so many familiar faces in the audience and extremely exciting to gain so many new fans too. Huge thanks to Mindfield and the inimitable Marty Mulligan for giving us the opportunity to play at Electric Picnic. We will be back next year with more magic. Until then, stay tuned to us here and on Facebook for more exciting festival appearances and shows.
