We love sketches round here. In fact we reckon they are the greatest thing that ever happened to comedy. And we firmly believe that our own Brownbread Players are a gang of sketch comedy ledgebags in the making.
So, to spread the gospel on our comedy influences, we wanted share this list of “The 100 greatest sketches ever” as compiled by Kalle last year for his website artlick.com. You will now be armed with a veritable ton of comedy clips to amuse your friends as you interact wittily on Facebook and Twitter. Pawn them off as your own discoveries, we are totally cool with that.
We’ve included a link to the individual pages below as well as including a sample sketch from that section of the list. Some of the clips appear to have gone to the great cloud computing gig in the sky but most of them are still there and still hilarious. You can always look them up on your favourite search engine if they’re not there. In fact, you should.

#89 The Two Ronnies’ (Ronnie Corbett and Ronnie Barker) Mastermind sketch is the absolute yardstick for smart writing in any format. Just really funny and really clever.

#69 Eugene Mirman is a unique voice in stand up comedy and his little video sketches are off-the-wall, inventive and really funny. This sketch is doubly cool because Wilco’s Heavy Metal Drummer plays from his finger. You’ll see.

The 100 Greatest Sketches Ever – 60 to 51
#58 Robert Mitchell and David Webb may be best known as the stars of the marvellous Peep Show sitcom but their sketches are outstanding too – consistently hilarious and right on the money. In fact almost all of their sketches are brilliantly written and performed and deserve multiple viewings . This particular sketch hits home with anyone who has had to endure turgid daytime television.

The 100 Greatest Sketches Ever – 50 to 41
#42 During the height of the troubles in Northern Ireland, members of Sinn Fein were not allowed to speak on national tv so their voices were substituted with those of an actor. As if that weren’t already bizarrely funny, Steve Coogan takes that concept and makes it even funnier on The Day Today.

The 100 Greatest Sketches Ever – 40 to 31
#36 It’s almost annoying how little there is to this sketch considering how marvellous it is. Take a brilliantly bright comedian such as Stephen Fry and have him talk about language. Thats it. Savour the privelege of watching him in full verbal flight and marvel at his ability to draw humour from the most unlikely linguistic places.

The 100 Greatest Sketches Ever – 30 to 21
#30 Mr Show with David Cross and Bob Odenkirk is probably the greatest American sketch comedy show. Clever ideas, well directed, smartly scripted, great cast and, crucially, very funny. Everything about this anti-corporate sketch is bang on-the-money and offers a frightening amount of funny-cause-its-true moments.

#6 Two RAF World War II pilots babble like pseudo-gangsta teenagers. It became a recurring sketch on the Armstrong and Miller show and every one of them has little gems to marvel at.
